Enjoying at Casual Dining Bars: Tips from a Middle School Student Writer, for both Heavy Drinkers and Non-drinkers!

This time, three middle school students and one adult visited "Nishiki Shokudo," a casual dining bar located on the outskirts of Nishiki Market. Of course, middle school students cannot drink alcohol, so they went with an adult who loves alcohol!

The theme of this coverage is "How both drinkers and teetotalers can enjoy together!"

We wanted to share how people who can drink alcohol and those who cannot can enjoy going out for a meal together. Whether you're going to an izakaya with children or dining with adults where some can drink and some cannot, we hope this serves as a reference for ways to enjoy together.

At "Nishiki Shokudo," which offers delicious dishes and drinks, we'll share what kind of dishes and drinks entertained us from the perspectives of both drinkers and non-drinkers.

Fun to drink! Delicious even if you can't drink!

Seeking delicious food, we arrived at this restaurant! (Photo provided by Sake to Meshi Nishiki Shokudo)

"Nishiki Shokudo" is a 5-minute walk from "Shijo Station," "Karasuma Station," and "Kyoto Kawaramachi Station."

【Nishiki Shokudo】

This is a popular dining and drinking establishment that provides Showa-era comfort food, sourcing ingredients primarily from "Nishiki Market," known as the kitchen of Kyoto.

Upon entering, despite being an izakaya, it has a stylish atmosphere. For a moment, it didn't feel like your typical izakaya.

There were retro-style posters from the Showa era at the counter seats. Adults might feel nostalgic about them, but for children, they evoke a sense of the good old days. The ambiance seems comfortable for both drinkers and non-drinkers alike.

Fruit Sour (¥580)

We promptly ordered drinks! Since we are middle school students, we opted for non-alcoholic ones. This time, we ordered four: Kiwi Sour, Lemon Sour, Dark Cherry Sour, and Lemon Sour, from right to left.

There are also non-alcoholic options, so even those who don't drink alcohol can enjoy the feeling of having a drink. That's why we can also enjoy the feeling of being adults with non-alcoholic sours.

Since they come with fruit pulp, you can also enjoy the texture.

Meat Sucking Set Meal (¥1,700)

I had the famous Meat Sucking Set Meal, which is recommended by Nishiki Shokudo.
It's an exquisite taste! The staff also mentioned that it's the best recommendation in the shop.
For those who drink alcohol, meat sucking is the perfect way to end the meal.

Very tender and delicious! Recommended for those who dislike tough, fibrous meat!
The meat is rare, giving it a visually luxurious appearance!

Beef Tendon Stew set(¥1,500)

I also had the Beef Tendon Stew set.
The sauce was rich and the meat was tender! It really warmed me up.
You can create your own "Original Set" by combining existing set meals with your favorite dishes.

Yum! The flavor is rich, so it goes well with rice!

The staff also recommended the Beef Tendon Stew for those who don't drink alcohol, so be sure to try it.
Probably, it's a guarantee that it will go well with alcohol!

Fried chicken(¥780)

Deeply flavorful and incredibly delicious! Wow! For those who don't drink alcohol, the rice just keeps coming. You can easily have 10 bowls. For those who drink, go for the highball without hesitation. What a blissful combination!

The staff also mentioned that they use rare and carefully selected spices, so be sure to give it a try.

Homemade Potato Salad (¥600)

This is a potato salad made with Shibazuke from Masugo at Nishiki Market. Who knew Shibazuke and potato salad would go so well together?!

At Nishikishokudo, you can have unlimited rice for free!! Even if you don't drink, you can eat until you're satisfied.

In addition to the dishes introduced this time, Nishikishokudo has many other delicious dishes.

Summary

Recommended points for drinkers:

  • With a wide range of menu options, including elegant and light dishes like the recommended Nikuyui, you can refresh your palate and continue enjoying your drinks.

  • With plenty of non-alcoholic options like fruit sours, even non-drinkers can enjoy the feeling of drinking.
  • Nishikishokudo offers a variety of set meals that go well with rice, so even non-drinkers can be satisfied with a hearty meal.
