Tourist attractions that are better to visit by car

In this article, I will give you four tourist destinations in Kyoto (Kansai region) that you should visit by car.
The criteria for this list are places that are too time-consuming and difficult to reach by public transportation. All of these places have parking lots (except for the Metasequoia trees) and are excellent sightseeing spots.

(1) Ikkyuji Temple (Kyoto Prefecture) Address 102 Satonouchi, Mokuza, Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture
This temple is located in southern Kyoto, about 50 minutes by car from Kyoto Station. It is famous as the temple built by monk Ikkyu, the model for the main character in the anime "Ikkyu-san," which all Japanese know.

Recommendation: It is not impossible to get there by train, but it is suitable to go by car. Although it is a historical building, there are not many visitors, so you can enjoy viewing the traditional building and garden at your leisure. There are many parking lots, so there is little difficulty in parking. However, it is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall, so you should expect a lot of tourists during those seasons.

(2) Hoshida Park (Osaka Prefecture) Address: 5019-1 Hoshida, Katano City, Osaka Prefecture
This park can be reached by car from Kyoto Station in about 1.5 hours (1 hour if you use the expressway). It is one of the largest parks in Osaka, with a huge suspension bridge, lots of climbing and other activities, and a viewing spot from which you can see all of Osaka.

Recommendation: Above all, I recommend the star swing. It is one of the best single bridges in Japan, and you can take beautiful pictures with few people (see below). It takes a little time to get to the bridge from the nearby parking lot, and it is hilly, so you should prepare your stamina in advance (lol).

3) Lined with metasequoia trees (Shiga Prefecture)
Address: Hiruguchi~Makino, Makino Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture
A 2.4-km avenue lined with approximately 500 metasequoia trees. As an approach road to the nearby Makino Plateau, it forms a plateau-like landscape.

Recommendation: Although the area is already well-known in the Kansai region, the trees are so beautifully arranged that it is worth visiting. It is always interesting to visit because you can take pictures in any season, regardless of spring, summer, fall, or winter. However, it is basically a road for daily life, so you should be careful with cars when taking pictures.

4) Mikatagoko (Fukui Prefecture)
Address: Wakasa Town, Mikata-Kaminaka-gun, Fukui Prefecture; Mihama Town, Mikata-gun, Fukui Prefecture
The collective name for five lakes located across Mihama Town, Mikata-gun, Fukui Prefecture and Wakasa Town, Mikata-Kaminaka-gun, Fukui Prefecture. It is included in the Wakasa Bay National Park.

Recommendation: I visited in summer and autumn. Even in summer, it is very cool at the top of the mountain (compared to Kyoto). However, it is cold only in winter, and the road may be closed, so if you want to go, I recommend going between spring and autumn.
